H.O. Schmidt Bildhauer

H.O. Schmidt (born 1960), sculptor and painter

(BBK) from Remscheid/ North Rhine-Westphalia,
received the Werkhaus Young Artists’ Prize in 1985. In 2016, he was the first male artist to be featured at the Women’s Museum in Bonn. His work ‘Ladder to Heaven’ was received by the UNESCO Chairholder in Varanasi (India), the Vatican and the Dalai Lama. In 2018, Schmidt created the 500 sqm action painting Notre Dame (WDR); in 2020, he received the Friedrich Engels Prize (Wuppertal) and the Klaus Novy Prize (Berlin). Then came the invitation to participate in the international art and science project Digitopia. In 2021, ‘von Wahrheiten’ (of truths) was the joint final project with the great Mary Bauermeister. In 2023, alongside Prof. Dieter Ronte, he was co-founder of the artorale support association and chairman. His current works: sculptures for public spaces in Wuppertal city centre, in Remscheid-Lennep and in Ecuador.
